Laser and Skincare MedSpa in Red Deer offers laser skin resurfacing for the smoothing of fine lines and wrinkles while improving skin discoloration and offering mild skin tightening. There is no downtime and only mild or moderate redness when compared to other skin resurfacing lasers.
The Pixel™ Fractional Laser (used for skin resurfacing) targets a precise layer of the treated area of skin. The Pixel 2940nm Fractional™ Laser delivers microbeams of light to the skin that penetrate targeted areas well below the epidermis and into the dermis. These microbeams initiate a natural healing process resulting in the formation of new, healthy tissue which provides visible skin resurfacing results for improved skin color, texture, tone, fine lines and wrinkles.
A series of three skin resurfacing treatments, a month apart, followed by a rest phase and then 1 – 3 treatments annually will maintain youthful changes in the skin’s tone and appearance. With just a percentage of the skin being treated (which results in healthy, more youthful skin), it creates seamless, radiant skin without the unwanted side-effects associated with other types of technology.
The Pixel 2940nm Fractional™ Laser used for skin resurfacing should not be confused with various types of microdermabrasion which offer a gentler type of skin exfoliation and cannot truly resurface the skin. Microdermabrasion offers very limited results when compared to the Fractional Laser.
Treatment for Stretch Marks or Striae
The Pixel 2940 NM Fractional Laser™ is the first Fractional Laser to be approved by the FDA for the treatment of stretch marks (striae).
Ongoing clinical studies have shown that subjects treated with the Pixel 2940nm achieved an average improvement of between 51% and 75% in the appearance of their stretch marks (striae), based upon a blinded review of photographs comparing the pre-treatment appearance of striae versus the results three months post-treatment.

How is this skin resurfacing laser treatment different from other types of laser treatments?
Until the development of fractional skin resurfacing there were only two types of laser treatments available – ablative and non-ablative. Ablative laser treatments are effective but do require some recovery time. Non-ablative laser treatments (as with the Pixel 2940nm Fractional™ Laser) have little or no side-effects and almost no healing time is required. The Pixel™ fractional skin resurfacing laser offers the same effectiveness as the ablative treatment, but has a faster healing time.
How does the Harmony Pixel™ Laser work?
The Pixel 2940nm™ Laser is designed to rejuvenate aging and sun damaged skin by targeting damaged tissue. The laser’s microbeams penetrate into the dermis, far below the epidermal or outer layer of skin. Because the beam penetrates deep into the dermis layer of skin it eliminates the old epidermal pigmented cells. Surrounding each area of the laser beams is healthy, unaffected tissue. The healthy, surrounding tissue triggers the body’s natural healing process which then accelerates the production of collagen and the formation of new, tighter tissue to replace the skin’s imperfections.
How are the Harmony Pixel™ Laser laser and Fraxel Laser treatments different?
With the Pixel 2940nm Fractional™ Laser no tinted guide lotion is required. Additionally, as the Pixel 2940nm Fractional™ Laser contains a unique sapphire cooling tip which cools the skin, there is minimal discomfort during treatment sessions.
Are the skin resurfacing treatments painful?
Because the Pixel 2940nm Fractional™ for skin resurfacing has a unique sapphire cooling tip which cools the skin before, during and after each pulse of light most people don’t find the sessions that uncomfortable. Most patients describe the treatments as a snapping sensation against the skin with a mild sensation similar to sunburn felt for a short time afterward.
What should I expect after having a skin resurfacing treatment?
For the first 24 hours after a treatment your skin may feel like it is sunburned and will appear slightly pink or red with some mild to moderate swelling. The redness should fade in just a few hours. Using a moisturizer will help reduce skin flakiness. After the treatment, a water-based foundation (like Jane Iredale makeup or similar product) can be safely used to hide any redness or swelling. Patients can return to normal activities after the procedure – unlike after ablative laser treatments.
What precautions should be taken after a skin resurfacing treatment?
It is important to apply a good sunscreen at least twice a day after skin resurfacing and/or to avoid direct sunlight during the healing process.
