Evidence has been building for over the last decade of the link between premature death, heart disease, and certain cancers and the amount of physical activity in one’s life. The worst job is a desk job -it takes years off even a healthy normal weight person!

What can you do? If you have a desk job, stand up and work when possible for periods of time or get up and move around for five minutes every hour. Think about how you can build activity into your job.
Large corporations have been onto this for years as it increased productivity and overall happiness at

Wear a pedometer, ten thousand steps a day is considered a minimal activity goal. A brisk 20-30 min
walk daily stimulates the metabolism and should ideally be done at the end of the day. This can be used to make up your ten thousand plus steps. I know it can be hard to do when you are tired, have numerous distractions and family at home, and other commitments. Start with small increases of activity and aim for 3-4 days a week that you have dedicated to yourself.

Once you get started by building that time into your agenda, you will be surprised by how much better you feel overall and how it overall primes your motivation.
